The Problem
Kevin Stickels the Assistant Head Groundsman at Sutton Valence School knew exactly who to turn to when it was time to clean their 8-lane polymeric athletics track and event area. With the accumulated dirt, dust, moss and algae, the track had become dark and discoloured, this, together with the associated risks of reduced drainage and performance.
Having successfully had the track cleaned several years ago, it was time to get REPLAY Maintenance’s Aquatrax machinery back in, once again, to clean and restore the surface.
The Process
Liaising with REPLAY‘S Operations Team and, already having good knowledge and understanding of the process, Kevin agreed a suitable date and duration for the works to be scheduled to avoid any conflict with the school curriculum and track use.
REPLAY‘S most experienced Aquatrax operator Matt Spencer, who was already very familiar with the track layout and operation having completed the initial clean back in 2014, was deployed to carry out the work.
The Solution
The Aquatrax, a ‘best-in-class’ process, combines low pressure, high volume cold water washing to dislodge the dirt and algae from the texturised track surface. The water containing the contamination is then fully removed via a vacuum extraction system to a waste tank on the machine so no residue is left on the surface.
The expert clean involved an initial ‘pre-wet’ phase to help loosen any dust and dirt, followed by the non-chemical cleaning phase. Matt also made use of the side arm turbo-wash attachment on the Aquatrax machine, ensuring that the hard to access areas were cleaned consistently with the rest of the track.
The clean, safe and vibrant surface was signed off and handed back to the School, in readiness for the main Athletics season and the development of the next generation of potential Olympians!
