Renovate process is designed to address compaction and contamination of the existing infill. Whilst Rejuvenation focuses deeper especially if there are drainage and silting issues with your surface, Rejuvenation can help restore the carpet. Therefore combined can make a complete transformation at removing thick moss build-up whilst also resetting the drainage.
Background
Leisure client, Center Parcs Elveden Forest, approached the Replay sales team regarding their Segway track. The area is used by visitors, of varying abilities, as a practise area for their motorised two-wheeled vehicles before they navigate onto bespoke trails around the village.
Works
Being surrounded by trees, it was inevitable that the track itself would be covered in surface vegetation. The ecosystem of a sand based synthetic carpet, located in a leafy forest with limited sunlight to the forest floor meant that it was the perfect conditions for moss growth. When moss takes hold, particularly in less used areas, it can be difficult to completely eliminate. This was evident on this site as there was thick, widespread moss which had originated from the less used perimeters and spread throughout. Whilst picturesque for visitors, this growth limited the track’s use and became problematic for the users and their Segway vehicles.
The team initially undertook a complete moss removal treatment through the Replay Renovate, an orbital brush driven process that agitates the carpet fibres, removes surface vegetation and de-compacts, lifts and regrades the lower level surface infill.
Replay Rejuvenation is a compressed air driven process that extracts compacted, contaminated sand and restores the synthetic carpet pile to the vertical. Technicians passed over the surface several times utilising Replay Maintenance’s specialist extraction machinery to ensure that the removal of infill was as close to the carpet backing as possible, effectively re-setting the drainage to ‘as new’. This ‘re-setting’ will limit water pooling on the surface, creating a safer environment for users.
The Results
After the processes had been complete new silica sports sand was applied to the surface and evenly distributed throughout the playing surface through Replay’s Replenish. This specialist sand is spherical in shape and assists with drainage and offers protection for the carpet fibres, ensuring the longevity of the surface. The overall result completely renovated the Segway track to have improved grip and safety as well as aesthetically pleasing effect.
