Renovate is a maintenance service that aims to restore and address compaction and contamination of the existing infill within the playing surface.
A Replay Maintenance customer of nearly 10 years, the head groundsman got in contact regarding Burnleys football pitch maintenance. The synthetic grass training pitch and surrounds at Burnley Football Stadium, Turf Moor and their training ground were struggling with their flat carpet fibres and grip performance.
Following a site survey to the indoor 3G pitch at Burnley’s training ground, Replay surveyors identified the need for the opening of the 3G fibres and the de-compaction of the lower level infill. The synthetic carpet fibres had become flat across the whole surface due to constant use, maintenance levels and low infill, meaning the fibres were no longer supported or protected by the required infill.
Flat carpet fibres can lead to a number of issues, with play dynamics being affected, grip/safety issues and the surface wearing at an accelerated rate. A Replay Renovate was recommended to rectify the identified issues and to reduce further damage.
Staff undertook a Replay Renovate, a brush driven process that removes the surface debris and vegetation. The synthetic carpet fibres were returned to the upright and the rubber infill de-compacted to the full depth. Following works at the training ground, in Nov 2022 Replay was approached to complete works at Burnley Football Club’s stadium. Whilst the pitch itself is hybrid, the pitch surrounds are made up of a combination of artificial 3G pitch carpet and polymeric. The area of focus for the visit was the 3G surrounds which had become contaminated and required areas of repairs.
With the nature of a hybrid pitch, this meant that there was significant transfer of dirt and detritus on to the pitch surrounds, requiring specialist maintenance. As with the training ground, Replay undertook a Renovate to remove surface debris, dirt and to de-compact the fibres, together with a perimeter moss removal and repairs. Following the Renovate, the rubber infill was dressed back into the surface to ensure even distribution across the synthetic surface.
The Burnley football pitch maintenance boosted the users performance as it improved the grip and safety. It allowed the surface to prolong its lifespan as it reduces its rate of wearing.
